The process of carefully drafting documents with a goal that a client's wishes will be legally enforced after he or she has passed away. Estate planning includes: preparation of wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and advance health care directives in a manner that can eliminate some of the uncertainties of probate court and maximize estate value by reducing taxes and other expenses; designating beneficiaries and trustees of trusts as well as designation of guardians of minor children; establishing directives for health care professionals and designating the person or persons that will make medical decisions in the event of a client's incapacity.
